Women
MPs in the Zimbabwean Parliament since independence 1980
Women
remain under-represented in decision making in Zimbabwe and throughout
the world. The barriers to women's equal representation are many
and stem from poverty, cultural values and practices, the burden
of caring responsibilities and the political cultures and structures
that are exclusive to women.
Despite
these barriers and constraints there are phenomenal women in the
history of Zimbabwe, since independence in 1980, who have overcome
and made it into Parliament. These women are the unsung heroines
of Zimbabwe and in different ways offer encouragement and inspiration
to other women in this country and beyond. WiPSU is working tirelessly
in its various programmes to ensure that women's representation
in Parliament increases.
