The Technical Support and Capacity Building Programme

Since its inception, WiPSU has been providing technical and personal empowerment support to women in political office and this Programme will continue to be an element of WiPSU's work. The Programme aims at empowering women MPs and Councilors through giving them practical support and addressing critical elements of leadership at the individual level. This is based on the realization that women MPs and Councilors are not always able to articulate technical issues as may be required of them as they carry out their roles and responsibilities. The Programme thus aims at strengthening the qualitative participation of women in political leadership.

The Programme involves itself in creating and strengthening linkages between women MPs and Councilors and women's organizations and women from other sectors. Women's organizations are working on advocacy issues aimed at improving the lives of women and WiPSU provides the link between women's organizations and women MPs. The Programme is also interested in ensuring that women leaders interact with women from other sectors so that they can talk and share ideas as a means of strengthening the capacity of women leaders to articulate women's issues in various sectors of society from a more informed perspective. This interaction also spreads to women MPs in the region and beyond through study visits, meetings and conferences.
